Presentation by Diébédo Francis Kéré at the Mock-Up Stuttgart, 04.06.2014
At the beginning of June, the multi-award winning architect Diébédo Francis Kéré was our guest at the Mock-Up in Stuttgart and held a presentation which enthralled the large audience that attended the event.
Over 160 architects, designers and innovators from other disciplines accepted the invitation from the aed and the Nimbus Group and made the event a resounding success – the Mock-Up was (almost) bursting at the seams.
Mr. Kéré (whose awards include the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture and the Holcim Global Award in Gold) mainly focuses on socially and ecologically sustainable architecture projects in developing countries. Diébédo Francis Kéré, who was born in Burkina Faso, reported on his philosophy and his approach to work, taking examples from the numerous projects he has worked on. His talk was received with tremendous enthusiasm – mainly thanks to his extraordinary commitment and his somewhat different view of architecture and the construction sector in general.
Werner Sobek and Arno Lederer provided a lively introduction to the presentation. The latter also opened a fascinating exhibition about an aid project run by the University of Stuttgart in South Africa. The exhibition will run until the beginning of August at Nimbus Group Mock-Up. The co-host of the presentation evening was once again the aed, the Association for the Promotion of Architecture, Engineering and Design in Stuttgart. The aed is an initiative founded by Stuttgart engineers, architects and designers with the aim of promoting design expertise in the Stuttgart region – from product and graphic design, multimedia and engineering through to architecture – and raising awareness of the topic with the general public.
