Together with renowned universities, the NRC (Nimbus Research Company) is developing light systems which will be presented for the first time within the framework of the "Solar Decathlon 2010", a competition held by the U.S. Department of Energy. In cooperation with University of Wuppertal, the traditional "light and light switch" concept has been replaced by an entirely new and radical "luminous ceiling" solution.
A completely different concept is being realised with the Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences. The various demands placed on a modern lighting concept (general lighting, functional lighting, atmospheric lighting) have been completely separated from one another

The Solar Decathlon is an international competition held by the US Department of ENERGY. The aim of the competition is to design and build the most energy-efficient and attractive solar-powered home. A further aim is to raise public awareness of energy-efficient construction.
20 teams of students from all over the world compete against each other in the Solar Decathlon. Scores are awarded to the 20 houses in 10 different disciplines.
The Nimbus Group is supporting the Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences and the University of Wuppertal in the Solar Decathlon.
The Nimbus Group will put its years of know-how and efficient LED technology into two quite different projects. Up to now, the Solar Decathlon has always been held in Washington D.C., right in front of the White House. In 2010 the competition is due to take place on European soil for the first time and will be organized by the Spanish Ministry of Construction. In June 2010, the "Villa Solar" will be erected on an area covering 30,000 square metres the banks of the Rio Manzanares opposite Spain's Royal Palace. This will become the official venue for the Solar Decathlon Europe 2010. All the finalists will build their project houses just outside the gates of the old city, next to the so-called "Green Lung", the city's largest park. The houses will then be scored by jurors during a one-week exhibition in June.
As Dietrich Brennenstuhl, CEO of the Nimbus Group stated: "With LED and intelligent lighting control in our portfolio, we have future-oriented technologies at our disposal which help save energy in both homes and office buildings. We are continuing to develop these technologies to create the light of the future. With their innovative ideas, the universities play a central role in this undertaking."
